notes
once again, my thoughts this month are mostly on palestine. i’ve written a lot of poetry disguised as rants about the government and the state of the world recently, and my new manuscript that’s been taking shape over the last few months is decidedly focused on voicing the frustration, disappointment, resentment, and anger towards capitalism and colonialism that have become a part of my emotional reality.
outside of the emotional, though, the reality-reality is that feeling helpless isn’t an effective way to be a good community member. it may often feel like screaming into the void to advocate for the oppressed in today’s world, but recent times have shown us that collective action does work. palestinian journalist bisan owda was removed from tiktok, but the actions of tens of thousands of followers were able to get her reinstated. while this is a small victory, it’s proof that your voice does matter in this fight. the more people talking about this, the better—it is inspiring people to change their mind, and more importantly, act alongside us.
if you’re looking for an action to take besides speaking out, please consider following @gazafunds on twitter—they bring light to stagnant fundraisers of gazan families seeking aid. i’m pledging to donate to at least one fundraiser every payday.
