notes + sneak peek
this past month, i took part in
, a writing challenge in memory of Aurelie Sheehan which asks the writer to commit to writing (or at least starting) a short piece every day in april. i was drawn to this challenge mostly because i’ve been on a substantial short prose kick these last few months, and it presented me the opportunity to write both poetry and prose, as well as many secret third (and fourth and fifth) things. while my previous efforts to write every day in a given calendar month have all failed, i feel like the open-ended nature of this challenge was good for me, and i’ll definitely be giving it another go next year. here’s a short poem i wrote as part of the challenge; it may or may not be forthcoming in something big, cool, and secret (for now).i have yet to examine for Cape May, NJ how the root of my suffering may in fact be because i have now passed two winters without going to the beach right before it was supposed to snow. i have never been a beach person, but the right time to go is when the whitecaps are nearly the same shade of bleugris as the sky, when washington square mall is only lightly bustling.
