notes
i’ve been thinking a lot lately on how to include visual material in my thesis, because it’s something that’s important to me as a visual artist/writer. i haven’t quite settled on an answer, but i am starting to think i might find it in my design class this semester. on the first day, we looked at a book by Chip Kidd that really grabbed my attention—the design was totally unconventional, but extremely intriguing. i’ll admit i initially worried that taking type would be a bit of a repeat for me after taking type 1 in undergrad, but i’m now looking forward to this opportunity to play in a dedicated design setting. i’m already fine-tuning things, and i have a good feeling about my thesis.
sneak peek
today is not a sneak peek at work in the conventional sense, but more of a challenge. recently, i invented a form called diespoetica (day poem) in which the structure of the piece is determined by a date the poet chooses. so if you’re seeking a writing prompt, i bestow upon you the following:
choose a date that has some sort of meaning to you.
write it out in numbers. if you’re from outside the U.S., reverse it so the month is first. or keep it the same—i also have been experimenting with reversed, doubled, and double reverse diespoeticas.
choose another poem—anything you want!
the number of the month corresponds to how many lines you will pull from the poem you chose. this will be stanza 1.
the number of the day corresponds to how many lines you will write. this will be stanza 2.
write away!
