notes
before i move into my news, i want to remind y’all that in a recent update, i shared some ways to help Palestine. i’ll also add that if you haven’t signed the Writers Against the War on Gaza statement of solidarity, here is a link to do so. you can also pledge to boycott the Poetry Foundation after they pulled a review of Sam Sax’s Pig because the collection discusses anti-Zionism. finally, here is a database of 1700+ books that break down the history of Palestine and Israel. as writers, we know that words matter. keep using yours to fight this fight, because no one is free until we’re all free.
news
my publishing practice is starting to see the effects of sending my work out to places with longer submission times (read: i have a lot of stuff in the hopper right now and not a lot to show for it yet). as such, enjoy this small but mighty selection of november news!
cover artwork: my photograph “Warren Road bridge” was featured on the cover of the Halloween issue of TMP Magazine!
published poem: “soliloquy for the gender spectrum” in en*gendered lit
published poems: “i forgot where i read that suicidal people can’t see future consequences but i felt personally called out by that” and “a tumblr post says your highest self does things from love, not for love” in Eunoia Review
new mini zine: in preparation for AWP, i made a mini zine of all my published books! you can download and print your own, if you’re into that sort of thing. i’ll also have plenty of copies at february’s conference.
and another thing: i recently submitted a bunch of places at once and thought hm, how can i recommend all of these great places to my friends? so i (predictably) made a spreadsheet and plan to update it periodically with where i’m submitting.
sneak peek
last month, i let y’all peek at my Peachtober collages. i didn’t end up finishing the poetry challenge, but this is one of my favorites that i did write!
i’m theoretically afraid of space travel
you know, all that vastness and void that awaits. but if i wasn’t, i’d outfit an old volvo with antigravity blasters & cruise to neon cosmos. i’d thaw the lake on mars & rent a houseboat, then set up shop on saturn & host guests on my ring-porches. you’ll have to correct me if my science is wrong—they said i’d never amount to anything if i didn’t take biology until senior year & i guess that makes them right. i am still as afraid of veins as i am of space travel. i guess what that makes me is a poet.
